Introduction
The education and research domains of the Department of Korean Language and Literature can be largely divided into the Study of Korean Language and Korean Literature. The study of Korean Language conducts education and research for all aspects of Korean language, including usage in ancient times, middle ages and our current times as well as training on inscriptions, transformations, etc. Korean literature can be divided into modern and classic literature. For Modern literature, our Department has been conducting education and research on literature of various genres written in modern times, including novels, criticisms and essays. Classic literature focus on education and research on the classics, such as ancient poems, Korean odes and classic novels.
Education Goals
By focusing on the study of the Korean Language and Literature as well as related specialties, the Department of Korean Language and Literature endeavors to uphold the traditions of our traditional culture. Within such a framework, the Department aims to cultivate talented individuals capable of creating a new culture.

Principles
- Choosing major subjects including related to other majors has to be proved by a professor.
- Students have to be proved by professors when they need to get credits and apply for comprehensive examinations.
- Students who want to hand in their master's or doctor's dissertations have to present their theses in front of major professors and graduate school students.
- Students who are going to hand in doctor's dissertations have to run more than 2 theses to their major. One of them has to be registered in National Research Foundation of Korea. Students must have records of presentation of theses.
