Introduction
The Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering received its first students in March 1988, a year after its foundation on October 23, 1987. The educational goal of the department is to understand and define characteristics of engineering materials based on fundamental theories of physics and chemistry, to conduct research on substances with new property and nature, and by utilizing effective manufacturing method. The field of study of the department covers various engineering materials such as metals, electronics, semiconductors, ceramic, complex materials, etc. Through systematic and effective education on basic property of these materials, students acquire vast knowledge on materials in general.
As such, we aim to cultivate creative and competent global leaders who perform in‐depth research in majoring field by understanding characteristics of each material.

Goals
- Students continuously study mathematics, basic science and major knowledge necessary for engineering, acquire ability necessary for work‐level engineering and by thinking creatively, obtain capability to solve problems by planning, implementing and applying various researches and to design system comprehensively.
- By cultivating logical communication skills, develop transfer ability of engineering knowledge and globalization capability to exchange and cooperate professional skills.
- Foster engineers with ethical thinking, social responsibility and teamwork ability as professionals.
- Develop knowledge on current affairs through elective and elementary engineering courses and cultivate understandability on the effect that engineering skills bring into the society and environment..
