Introduction
The major of Safety Engineering cultivates abilities for analysis and evaluations for various potential disasters and factors within work environments. Based on such foundations, our major endeavors to cultivate safety and health specialists who can propose scientific measure for disaster prevention and protection. At the same time, we endeavor to cultivate individuals possessing creativity, independence, and democratic values who will become leaders in the development and security of regional society.
Goals
- Knowledge and Engineering Basic Education
Foster engineers with knowledge in mathematics, basic science and informatization necessary as an engineer. - Professional Major Knowledge Education
cultivate understandability on safety engineering major and problem solving ability to solve problems by creatively analyzing the problem. - Workplace-oriented Education
Foster safety professionals who satisfy the demand of the industry through work-oriented comprehensive education. - Globalization and Future-oriented Education
Cultivate future-oriented technology development capability accept latest global technology and to actively to handle the demand of new technology of the construction industry.

Principles
- (Research Student) Applicants to the master course can be enrolled as the research students of Department of Safety Engineering in Incheon National University for a semester before matriculation to graduate school. Each advisor guides the applicants in their preliminary study for the master course.
- (Assignment to Advisor) In principle, graduate students are assigned to advisors based on their applications. However, Department Chair can rearrange the assignment in case of inevitable circumstances.
- (Qualifications to earn a degree) Qualifications to earn a degree are as follows:
- Master’s Degree: To publish a paper to qualified academic journals or To apply for a patent (Via Industry-Academia Collaboration Foundation) at least one case or to present at conferences once
※ Papers scheduled to be published within the degree course are accepted as achievements.
- Doctorate(enrolled before 2010): Must satisfy requirements ① and ②.
- ① To publish two papers to qualified academic journals or to To apply for patents (Via Industry-Academia Collaboration Foundation) for two times and to publish a paper to one of qualified academic journals
Papers scheduled to be published within the degree course are accepted as achievements.
- ② In order to request a doctorate to graduate school, a Ph.D. candidate must pass an examination with oral presentation for his/her dissertation, where all faculty members participate as referees. The candidate must gain a majority vote in order to pass the examination.
Doctorate(enrolled after 2011): Must satisfy requirements ① and②
① In order to be eligible for thesis examination, a Ph.D. candidate must satisfy the requirement of either a) or b)
a) To publish a paper to one of the SCI(Scientific Citation Index) journals as the first author
b) To publish two papers to qualified academic journals as the first author or To apply for patents (Via Industry-Academia Collaboration Foundation) more than two times and to publish a paper to one of qualified academic journals as the first author
※Papers scheduled to be published within the degree course are accepted as achievements.
※ Journals : Qualified Academic Journals of equivalent level as SCI(Scientific Citation Index) journals or KCI(Korea Citation Index) accredited or candidate journals
② In order to request a doctorate to graduate school, a Ph.D. candidate must pass an examination with oral presentation for his/her dissertation, where all faculty members participate as referees. The candidate must gain a majority vote in order to pass the examination.
- ① To publish two papers to qualified academic journals or to To apply for patents (Via Industry-Academia Collaboration Foundation) for two times and to publish a paper to one of qualified academic journals
- Ph.D. candidate who wants to present his/her dissertation should submit temporary binding of his/her thesis when submitting request for thesis examination. If not, dissertation examination can not be proceeded further.
- Master’s Degree: To publish a paper to qualified academic journals or To apply for a patent (Via Industry-Academia Collaboration Foundation) at least one case or to present at conferences once
- (Qualifying Examination) For both master’s and doctoral courses, qualification for the qualifying examination is the same as one specified by school regulations. In principle, an applicant should select two out of subjects which the applicant already took.(three subjects for applicants from graduate school of engineering)
